Equal distance from the E & W coasts & halfway between GA & the S. tip of the peninsula, WINTER HAVEN (pop: 34,000*), in Polk Co., lies 25 miles E. of TAMPA (pop: 336,000*) & 35 miles SW of ORLANDO (pop: 238,000*)
Home to a population that is 86% urban & 14% rural, 32,000 acres of natural preserves gives it one of the country's highest concentrations of rare plants & endangered animal life.
WH has 45 fresh-water lakes with 24 of them connected by a system of man-made navigable canals known as "The Chain of Lakes." Having been the home of FL's 1st major tourist attraction "Cypress Gardens" est. 1936 - WH has also long been recognized as the “Water Ski Capital of the World.” It is also home to 'FL's Natural Growers,' an agricultural coop. of 1,000 citrus growers who own their own groves (50,000+ acres) while working w/local, state, & federal agencies to ensure integrity of natural areas.

WH is also now home to Legoland FL Resort in the old Cypress Gardens site. It is their 2nd US Theme Park after the success of a CA location.
The main campus of the 4 yr. Polk State College is located in WH.
Bordering towns include Lk Wales (Bok Tower), AUBURNDALE,
Lk Alfred, Eagle Lk., Haines City, Dundee, Bartow (county seat) & Lakeland (FL Southern College).
